Working from home seems to be a trend nowadays and a big chunk of the corporate population has been shifting to telecommuting. With the improvement in technology, it is easier to set up a "virtual office". Working in your pajamas, avoiding the bad situations on the streets, completing a task while sipping your coffee with your messy bun, unlimited time with your loved ones and all those stuff you hear about working from home that made you somewhat jealous - they are all true! But let me share some other things that might surprise you about what it feels like when you are not required to go into the office every day.

1. Your Place, Your Office
It doesn't necessarily mean that when you work from home you're only office will be at home. You have the freedom to work anywhere and I mean anywhere! In coffee shops, your bedroom or in your living room and even in your kitchen! For as long as you have the internet connection, you're good to go.

2. You Can Save More
Of course telecommuting means you can save from your everyday fares going to work and believe me that's a big deal! Plus, you won't have to spend more on taxis if we are having bad weather or if you are running late. You can also save in other areas. For instance, you will not be forced to buy new shoes or cardigans just to follow your office's "business attire". And if you're like me, you won't be wasting money on beauty products just to keep that "corporate girl" look because, at home, you can work without having separate wardrobes and can easily put on anything comfy.

3.You Can Be More Independent
And since there are no 'subject matter experts' and 'floor walkers' when you work from home (rather than yourself), you'll end up doing and learning things on your own. No, it doesn't mean you won't get support from your colleagues and managers, but most of the time, you will look into any available resources first and may ask Google first, right?

Plus, you'll also end up with some skills because you need to work well remotely.

4. You Can Stay Focused and Be More Efficient
Working from home lets you accomplish more because you can focus on your tasks and you can work at your own pace. With minimum to no destruction (well, there are still destructions like TV or social media, but you'll get a hang of them and sooner or later you will find them not destructing you at all), you can strategize how to work more efficiently rather than attending to colleagues who'll dropped by  to 'just ask questions' and you'll end up chatting in more than 20 minutes!

5. You'll Have Different Tasks that You Will Definitely Enjoy
We complain most of the time that our jobs are no longer fulfilling. Doing the same things over again is boring. When you work remotely, there are tons of services you can offer, tons of new skills to unlock. And you can also focus on a particular skill and master it. What's more fun about it is how you are being recognized for your job well done!

Are these not enough to convince you why more people are shifting from traveling to go to the office every day to telecommuting? Speaking of tons of services that you can offer, the competition in this jungle is really tough and it is up to you how you'll make it happen. But let me tell you, with the right attitude and determination, you can be successful in this field.

Here's the Job Lead, fellas!

Hello everyone and welcome September! Time flies so fast and the next thing we know, it's Christmas already! Before going to the 'holiday season feels', I would like to share a big blessing that we have received recently. If you have been in this blog, you'll notice changes on it, and if you are one of my friends, you knew that we have come to a turning point where I gave up my career to be with my family.

WORKING FROM HOME : THE BEGINNING

In the beginning of 2016, I have already posted about my hopes in becoming a work-from-home-mom, but you see it didn't happen immediately. I have a lot to consider : our financial status, our upcoming relocation and the fear of starting an unknown venture.

Why do I want to work-from-home?

Well, like most of our reasons: More time with my family. Especially that we are really having a hard time looking for someone to take care of my kids while me and hubby are working. I no longer want to go home from a tiring day at work without the kids because they had to stay to my parent's place, somewhere away from us. And also, my family needs me more than money. Although I know that it is a necessity, I'd be working from home to take care of them and earn at the same time. That's my ideal goal.

Last July 2017, I have took a leap of faith and finally resigned from my more-than-5-years-job. The reasons?

1. When we moved in Laguna, the travel going to work has been a struggle. Because of the distance, I have sacrificed my time and sleep which eventually affected my health. I got insomnia and I became anemic. I felt physically, mentally and emotionally drained EVERY.DAY.

2. My expenses going to work is higher than the money I am getting after paying all the bills. What about the mouths that I need to feed?

3. My marriage has been suffering, too! And we have almost decided to get separated - and I don't wanna do that.

Before I tell you what have I done to start working from home, let me share first MY FEARS:

1. We don't have any savings nor emergency funds. In fact, we are heavily in debt and we don't know how to re-pay. I am just so grateful that the people I owe money from are very understanding of our situation.

2. I don't know what's in store for us. Weighing the pros and cons, I still am worried if this will be the wisest decision I can make for my family. Like for instance, the company-provided health card for me and my kids, that was very helpful and that's one of the benefits I'll no longer have once I decided to shift to working from home.

3. I don't know what I can bring to the table. I know I can brag about my extensive experience in customer service, but the competition is really tough and it will be as if starting from scratch again.

But I still believed, and here are the actions I have taken to make it possible:

1. I can't do anything about our financial status, so I prayed and I prayed really hard.
Where God guides, God provides
And I know this is where I am supposed to be, because home is where mom is, right? So I really took a leap of faith, even if a lot of people is questioning my decision, my capability and the risk that I am taking. As Kim of Mom On Duty said, "Just start..." and so I did.

2. I know that I lack skills and that I don't have so much to present in the jungle of freelancing world, so I educated myself. Self-learning is the key! There are so many resources and tools that we could take advantage of, and some of them are free. For instance, I have joined a lot of Facebook groups that support work-from-home-people. They are providing free webinars and tips to get started. There are also sites that offer free courses, like Udemy. It's a tough competition, but if you wanna make it happen, then make it happen.

this was when I am having my "trial"
3. I have created my beginner's kit : CV, cover letter, skill set and confidence, and the technical side : desktop, reliable internet connection, headset with noise cancellation feature and I borrowed my sister's laptop for back up (since our desktop is the only entertainment we have at home).

4. Since I don't know if this plan will work, I've tested my hypothesis. I have created profiles in some (legit) sites like Upwork (formerly oDesk), Online Jobs Ph, Freelancer Ph and Elance. I have also taken some assessments to qualify and so I can start applying. And after a couple of months applying and waiting, I finally got a client! I started as a part time marketing specialist for this Australian client and that's when I told myself "This is it!". I have resigned from my job when his offer became stable.

Now, a lot has been asking me, "Is the pay good?" Well, I am still not earning my corporate salary yet, but our expenses have been cut in half since I stayed at home! Plus, I am still able to do side jobs like transcribing audios and article writing.

WORKING FROM HOME IS A BLESSING

Indeed! This has been an answered prayer. If you have been following me in IG and FB, you'll knew there was a time when our family experienced being away from each other - it was really insane! When after a very tiring day from work, I'll go home in an empty house, I will just cry. That was my great motivation. I don't want my kids to be away, physically, emotionally and mentally. I don't want them calling others "Mom" because that should only be me. I don't want to argue with my husband with little things and suffer emotional stress just because I need to travel long hours to be in my job.

I know God wants the best for us. But if we will not open our eyes, we won't see the blessings He is offering us. Remember that if we ask, it will be given. Hence, if we did not ask, we will not know and it won't be given to us.

Now, let me use this opportunity to re-introduce Graceful Musings XYZ.

my new logo!
And hooray, a new domain! Along with the blessing of working from home, I now have more time to blog! If you have been following my blog, you will recognize changes on it. From the logo, the theme and template.

From a personal blog, I am intending to turn this into a hub where I can inspire moms to start believing in their dreams, to step out of fear and live their dreams. I am still not deleting my old posts, but my new posts will be centered into giving tips and sharing experiences as a work from home mom. If I come across opportunities, I'll also share it here. Most likely, I am wanting to create a personal branding site and create a community of dreamer moms!

This is  just a start. It'll be a more GRACEFUL MUSINGS!

Now, it is your turn... Do tell me what topics you want me to cover or if you have any questions for me, I will be glad to answer them in my capacity - here. :)

P.S. don't forget to subscribe and get access to my free Blog Planner!

We all know someone who's successful. We probably ask ourselves if they're just lucky, perhaps more intelligent than us, or they may be just born with a silver spoon. But success isn’t limited to things like IQ levels or even the size of bank account. The following are 10 traits that productive and successful people share to help them get ahead:

Don't be afraid of being a book nerd.
Most of us think book nerds are losers, but billionaires like Mark Cuban and Bill Gates read at least an hour every day.

Get enough sleep.
Experts recommend at least seven hours of sleep, but there are some factors that affect a good night’s rest. One is our mattress. Shop for the right mattress, especially if you wake up in the middle of the night and you have back pain in the morning.

Wake up early.
It’s not just about getting enough sleep, but also making it a habit to wake up early. Some effective ways include not hitting the snooze button and not using devices that emit blue light as these can actually affect our circadian rhythm.

Work.
Pros and wannabes have one big difference: the former work even when they don't feel like it. We all go through a time when we can’t get our butt off the couch, but here's a trick: force yourself to work for only 15 minutes. See what happens next.

Minimize distractions.
Social media can easily distract you. You don't have to completely avoid your social accounts, but one technique is to check everything just twice a day. From social media to emails, batch-check everything after you have completed an important task and another time before you end your workday.

Talk to yourself.
Research showed that talking to yourself as if you're talking to another person can help deal with stress.

Write about your feelings.
You can write your experiences and emotions in a journal. Leaders like Napoleon Bonaparte and Marcus Aurelius recorded their thoughts to help them cope with stressful events.

Meditate.
You’ve probably heard about the benefits of meditating, such as doing yoga. Oprah Winfrey meditates daily to help improve memory, compassion, and even boost immunity.

Enjoy but don't be satisfied.
You can strive to work hard for the next big thing, but don't forget to appreciate what you have. Don't grumble and toil; just relax and enjoy your life while trying to reach your potential.

Keep things up. Have a goal
– as much as possible a daily goal and write these goals in your to-do list. In two weeks, you will see you have made a long chain of progress that will keep you motivated to maintain the chain.

You don't have to apply all the habits above at once. Start with the easiest one until it becomes a part of your routine. Practice another after you’ve successfully incorporated the easiest one for you.

Are you like me who is overwhelmed by so many things the Bible has to say? And yet still wants to finish it because it's fundamental and meaningful?

As a working momma, I am always busy and I'll be honest that Bible-reading, in most cases, became least prioritized. It's my goal to finish the whole Bible this year yet I am not even halfway!

The Bible is its own best teacher. However, it is not like an encyclopedia that's arranged by topic. Each chapters were derived from personal stories so it's break down according to timeline and experiences, hence it's divided to Old Testament and New Testament.

Here are my tips for an enjoyable and meaningful Bible-Reading:

Start with a Prayer
Start your day with a prayer and end it praying more. Praying lets us communicate with God and get real to Him. It lets us open our hearts and enjoy His presence. Before opening your Bible, pray for guidance, ask the Holy Spirit to speak to you and lead you.

Chew on it
Sometimes we say, "I need to chew on that" meaning we'll need to think about it for some time. When we meditate on His Word, we don't just read it. We think about it, reflect on it and we think of ways to apply it in our lives. Chewing lets us taste our food better as it brings out the flavor of what we're eating. Same goes to Bible-Reading, the more we chew on every chunks, the more meaningful it gets.

No Rush
Although we'd like to grow in wisdom and go deep in knowing our God, He's not rushing us. He wants us to go deep and benefit from His Word. Reading alone is different in meditating. Take a break! It doesn't need to be a chapter a day. If a verse goes straight to your heart, take time and chew on it. We can think more like God if we soak in and take our time discovering new things about Him.

Choose a Bible Plan
One way to discover the truth is to study the lives of different Bible characters. You may start reading from Genesis through Revelation or you may journey with God through history and start with the life of Jesus in the New Testament. Whatever it is that you find helpful in your Bible Reading, follow it. No rules. There are tons of plans to choose from, choose what's helping you understand the Bible more and what's helping you grow. No matter what, the Spirit will talk to your heart and lead you into new discoveries.

Make A Journal
This helps me a lot! I dedicate a notebook just for my devotion, written prayers and memory verses. Good thing my Certified Positive Planner has verse bank and daily verse tracker that keeps me right on track! I also created a schedule for each areas in my life to pray for. And, it's so nice to look back to your journals and track how much you've grown!

I haven't updated my blog since January. The reason being is that I don't know what topic to post, what story to share and how to come up with a good content.

Graceful Musings turned one last June 11. It was a big milestone for my blogging life but it was a really silent event. No "care to congratulate me?" post, no usual "I am grateful for this life" declaration. I am really having a low moment in my life.

But I know this is what I want to do. I want to write and I want to make a living out of it. I even thought of giving up on this, but see I'm still coming back!

I want to share nuggets of motivation to keep going, these are quotes I have been soaking myself on:

If You Can Dream It, You Can Do It

This blog started out of boredom. It was when I am pregnant with baby number 2. But you see, I've bought my own domain and dreamt that this could be more than just a hobby. I compiled photos, started creating a media kit, collaborated with different brands, and make my personal vision statement. I attended classes online to help me fire up this passion inside of me. I know I have a very long way to go, but I am not giving up on my dreams.

No matter what it is that's making you happy, go for it. Whether it's baking or scrapbooking, writing or crocheting, it's never too late to start nor is it too early to learn.

Done is Better Than Perfect
If you've been in my blog, you'll probably say "what this girl is proclaiming does not reflect on her works", or "this girl's skills are not so special".
It is true. My posts are not aligned to where I am seeing Graceful Musings because I am just starting to realize what value/s I want my blog to share. I know I am not a pro in here and I still have a lot to learn but seeing how my blog has improved makes me believe "I matter".

But what if I didn't even start blogging? Will I come at this point? Will I try to motivate mommies that dreaming should not stop after we became moms? Will I be exposed to different opportunities? And, will I meet amazing people of the same interests as mine? The answer would be no.

So I am happy with what I have started. It is not perfect, maybe not beautiful for you, but hey, I am learning and I know I am getting better!
If you have started a project but has become so busy that you've almost forget about it, go back to that and devote to finish it. No rush. Give it a 15-30 minutes a day. It doesn't matter how slow you'll work on it, what really matters is that YOU FINISH IT!

Don't Listen To What They're Saying, Go See for Yourself!

Failed in one of your projects? That is perfectly fine. Do not be demotivated by other people saying "You're a failure, stop trying because you can't make it".

Always find ways to improve, if you need to recreate yourself, then do it. Always inspire yourself to take action and believe in your dreams.

How about you, is there something that you really love doing but has not started yet? May I know what keeps you from starting?

Love,
Mommy Grace

It's my birthday month and it's just 4 days until I turn 25! I want my silver year to be better, purposeful and well organized. I want to learn how to be more grateful, passionate and I want to develop a positive vibes, para happy lang lagi, di ba?

I want to do a lot of things, I want to pursue my dreams and I want to focus on building healthy, happy relationships and be a better woman. I acknowledge that my lack of consistency and the way I am shaken by problems take me away from my goals. That's why I need constant reminders to keep me on track. I need help and inspiration.

Thank you Kitty Kate! :)

And so during the Christmas season, I've thought of a wishlist that can help me in planning and executing my plans to achieve certain goals. I requested for a CERTIFIED POSITIVE PLANNER!

I am so much grateful that my monita took extra effort to find it. I wasn't expecting to receive it because I was advised before the gift-giving that she can't find my wishlist and even asked for a 2nd option. I then asked for sketch pads for my calligraphy exercises. So I was really surprised and so much happy when I opened my gift!

Why CERTIFIED POSITIVE PLANNER?

I am choosing between Certified Positive, Belle De Jour and Passion Planner. These 3 never fail to amaze me every time the year is ending and planners are all over. But I opt for a Certified Positive Planner because I realized, in order for me to achieve my goals and make 2017 a better year,  I must
"not only believe that God can, but believe more that God will".  I want to start improving and focusing on my spiritual life.

The way this planner is created will surely help me (and you, too!) focused on seeing God in the dailiness of life and in growing in His wisdom.

So what's inside this beautiful planner?

Certified Positive Planner is a life-changing planner as they claim it, and I believe them! Take a look:

HOW TO MAXIMIZE YOUR PLANNER?

This planner is very clear with it's mission. They will help you see that bright light in the dark, stay positive and they will help you grow in faith.

DAILY VERSE TRACKER

Bible reading has been left at the bottom of our priority list because we are so much busy, right? I am guilty of this and I would like to try it again. Reading the Bible is sometimes boring specially if the story seems not applicable to you. The truth is, we are underrating the benefits that Bible reading can give us. I am glad that this planner has a tracker for my Bible-reading plan and tips to study the scripture in the most comfortable way.

It also has a verse bank:

This will not only help you store favorite verses but it will also help you remember those verses in times you need them. I don't know to you but when I am writing, I tend to remember things better. :)

MY ULTIMATE GOAL FOR 2017: More QUIET TIME!

"Cultivate a healthy relationship with the Lord daily by committing to set aside time to be together on His Word through the Bible and prayer."

On January 3, I commit to spending time with the Lord every morning just so I can start my day right. But you see I'm not a morning person, hahaha! My work begins at 3:30 PM, I'm at home around 2:30AM. So how will it be possible that I wake up 6AM to have a quiet time?

What I am doing is setting my alarm on that time, I'll wake up but not really getting up. I'll utter a prayer, grab my phone or the physical Bible to read a verse or two and ask God to take care of my day. That'll take around 5 minutes. I'll sleep again and wait for the kids to wake up and start the day! My real date time with the Lord is before bed time. I am telling God what happened, how I am feeling and what I want tomorrow to look like. I am spending time to read a devotional, then the Bible then write on my planner.

Whenever I am doing this, I feel confident knowing that everything's just fine for as long as I seek Him first in the midst of my busy, daily life. :)

I also like the page where you'll write a letter to God. No secrets, no shame, just pure honesty. Writing letters and prayers help me a lot! It releases emotions making my heart lighter plus, it's making me visualize things and helps me plan and organized.

SELF-EVALUATION PAGE according to the fruit of the Holy Spirit and LEVEL 10 GOALS

With this activity, I was able to see how I am doing and what needs improvement. Then, it'll ask you of action plans you'll take to become better in the way you act, speak and live your life. This is better than New Year's resolution!

PRAYER REQUEST and THANKSGIVING

Prayer allows us to communicate to the Lord and it gives us a more intimate relationship with Him. Praying for others create a compassionate hearts within us and it introduces God's character. I personally assigned a day for a specific category for praying:

MONDAY is for my family and friends,
TUESDAY for mentors and leaders,
WEDNESDAY is for the state of our government and for the authority
THURSDAY is for those who are experiencing pain in all aspects of life
FRIDAY is for my non material prayer requests
SATURDAY is finances and material prayer requests
SUNDAY is for my and my family's spiritual growth

After praying, the next thing I'm doing is listing down my "Thank You logs".
Last year, I started a blog-series in Grace&Beyond entitled "Sunday Highlights" dedicated for the things that I am thankful for every week.
